Information for Music Education Majors
The Bachelor of Science in Music Education with Secondary Licensure Degree at Utah Tech University is designed to be completed in 4 years. You will receive a broad-based education in a program that offers skill development in secondary choral and instrumental teaching, general music and elementary music education. The low student-faculty ratio insures valuable interaction with full-time faculty who provide authentic and immersive learning activities in the “Active Learning, Active Life” environment at Utah Tech University. The degree prepares you to productively teach in the multifaceted and innovative music classrooms of today’s schools.
- Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to obtain a Utah State Board of Education License to teach music in Utah secondary public schools. The program also includes the opportunity to qualify and apply for a Utah State Board of Education Endorsement to teach music in Utah public elementary schools.
- Approximately 95% of the music degree and education pre-requisite courses are completed in the first three years of the program. Application can be made to enter the secondary education licensure program at the mid-point of the third year. Part of this application includes a passing score (156 or above) on the PRAXIS Music Content exam
