Health and Safety Information

The Utah Tech University Music Department is meeting the current NASM standards as they relate to the needs of music students, general students, music faculty, curricular offerings and levels in regards to Health, and Safety for the degrees offered.

UT faculty is concerned about the health of individuals. Private instructors and ensemble directors will provide general musicians’ health information that addresses musculoskeletal, acoustic, and stress concerns. Students should ask their private instructor or ensemble director about any pain related to music making.

UT faculty will not diagnose any physical or mental health issues, but rather refer students to the Wellness Center (http://utahtech.edu/wellness/) or other appropriate licensed medical professionals.

The following links provide basic information about the maintenance of health and safety within the contexts of practice, performing, teaching, and listening to music.

Sound control and acoustic equipment is installed in the performing venues, rehearsal spaces and practice rooms. All spaces are handicap accessible.  Information regarding hearing, vocal, and musculoskeletal health and injury prevention is dispersed and discussed in the respective ensemble and studio classes.

The Music Department provides students, faculty, and staff who need it with electronic key access to monitor entry into the music buildings and practice rooms. You may call security  (435-236-4000 or 435-652-7515) for an escort to your car after dark.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to register with the campus Emergency Alert System to receive campus emergency information via phone, text, and email.
