The Utah Tech University Middle School Honor Band is primarily made up of students from Washington County School District. Participants are nominated by their middle school directors. Once selected, students are sent music to prepare and then they spend two days rehearsing and performing on the Utah Tech Campus. Interested students should talk with their directors. Each year the Utah Tech University High School Honor Band spends two days preparing and performing great works of band literature. The band meets on the Utah Tech campus and performs their concert in the Eccles Fine Arts Center. Goals of the band include educating students, strengthening friendships across schools, supporting high school music programs, and creating high caliber performances. Students from any location are welcome to audition and participate.
Below are links to the audition materials and the registration form. Students in the St. George area may do a live audition at their school on specified audition dates. Talk to your director for specific audition dates. If unable to make the live audition, or you live outside of St. George, please completely follow the instructions below to audition by video:

2) Practice!
2 Major Scales of your choice, 1 chromatic scale (scales should be 2 octaves, in eighth notes played at quarter note = 80)
Perform musical selections that demonstrate technical and lyrical ability (two etudes or a standard solo recommended). You may use the Utah All-State
Audition Etudes , or you may select your own etudes/solo.
***If you are interested in attending Utah Tech, this audition may double as a scholarship audition.

4) Record your audition if necessary. Name your file instrument.last name.first name (ex. AltoSax.Smith.Dr)
5) Audition
a. Live in St. George area at prearranged schools

6) Bask in the awesomeness of your audition and look forward to the results!
*Students proficient on more than one instrument in the same family (flute/piccolo, Bb clarinet/bass clarinet, saxophones, trombones, etc.) should submit a separate audition on each instrument using separate audition recordings.
*Percussion students should submit a recording that includes etudes on snare drum, mallets, and timpani.
Auditions are due by October28th. Results will be announced by November 7th and folders will be handed out shortly thereafter. Questions about the High School Honor Band should be directed to Dr. Bryant Smith at Bryant.Smith@utahtech.edu.
