1. Scales

  • major and harmonic minor
  • 2 octaves
  • hands alone
  • mm=80 (eighth notes)

2. Arpeggios

  • major and minor
  • 2 octaves
  • hands alone
  • mm=60 (eighth notes)

3. Primary Chord Progressions

  • major and minor
  • I-IV-I-V7-I
  • hands alone

4. Triad Inversions

  • major, minor, diminished, augmented
  • up and down 1 octave
  • hands alone

5. Harmonization & Improvisation

  • RH melody, LH accompaniment (at least 2 styles)
  • LH melody, RH accompaniment (at least 2 styles)
  • 2-handed accompaniment only (no melody)

6. Transposition

  • transpose 5 finger tunes
  • transpose extended 5 finger tunes

7. Sight Reading

  • be able to sight read three examples from Level 2 piano literature (early intermediate level)

8. Repertoire

  • perform an approved piece from level 3 piano literature
