DR. AMY NIELSEN

Dr. Amy Nielsen is a recognized opera director, singer, vocal and piano instructor and entrepreneur. In the opera world she has worked with a diverse range of companies that include Opera Classica Europa, University of Northern Colorado, Utah Vocal Arts Academy, St. George Opera, with orchestral directors, actors, students, and other professionals, in the role as performer, director, and more.

Dr. Nielsen has Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degrees in music-related fields and has taught at the public, private, and higher educational levels. Dr. Nielsen is the author of “A Selective Study of the Art Songs of Franz Lehar,” is the first study of its kind, which was published in December 2018.

She is also the founder and General/Artistic Director for St. George Opera, a 501(c)3 nonprofit performing arts company in Southern Utah (www.stgeorgeopera.com). She is the founder and CEO of Musical Play Day, LLC, (www.musicalplayday.com) a company that encourages and promotes musical play with children, and LDS Primary Printables, (www.ldsprimaryprintables.comwww.etsy.com/shop/funreligiousprintabl), which provides kids (song-based) Christian religious printables.

Dr. Nielsen has been musically involved since a young age. She and her five siblings presented a musical program for community members each Christmas, a tradition that continued for nearly 30 years. In 2011 Dr. Nielsen formed Amy’s Academy where she seeks to discover, nurture, and expand the musical abilities students. She offers private or group voice and piano lessons for all ages and ability levels (www.amys-academy.com). ​Dr. Nielsen has taught and performed around the United States and abroad (including Germany, France, and New Zealand), most recently appearing in both opera and concert roles with St. George Opera (2016-2018), and Opera Europa (2016).
